Business is booming on the Square as Candace Epperson opens, Tail Feathers, a charming new antique store.
Open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 101 Clinton Street Southeast, Tail Feathers offers furniture, gifts and home décor for the entire family.
With the most expensive item in the store being a $500 dark wood antique cabinet by local crafter Linda Hollingsworth, the price points are pocket-friendly.
As an alumna of Jacksonville State University, Epperson understands the college student struggle.
“I’m trying to keep the furniture inexpensive since we’re in a college town. I want to make everything in the shop accessible to college kids.”
Staying true to her alma mater, Epperson even drew inspiration for the name and logo for the store from the university and its mascot.
Tail Feathers also carries quaint home décor and select apparel for women and children.
Merchandise can be seen with prices listed on the store’s Facebook page. A list of surrounding area designers and artisans featured in her store include Rita Blanks, Jimmye Baine and Brenda Skinner.
Epperson said she is looking for more local crafters and artists to rent booth space in her store. She is also interested in giving back to her alma mater by receiving artwork on consignment from the students and teachers of JSU’s Art Department.
If anyone is interested in selling and/or consignment, she encouraged prospective people to send pictures of the items they would like to be featured in the store.
If the items are a good fit for the store, she will send information on booth rental and consignment.
Epperson can be contacted via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (256) 283-5075.
